Norwich Visitor

The Norwich Visitor is a mysterious person that visits the grave of Hannah Arnold in the Old Norwichtown Burial Ground in Norwich, Connecticut. He or she is an unknown person who leaves flowers and candles at Hannah Arnold's grave. There is always a small stone left on top of Hannah Arnold's gravestone after the visits.

Background

Norwich historian Bill Stanley has commented that Norwich Visitor has been attending the grave for years. The Norwich Visitor has never been seen. The visits occur during a certain full moon of the year. This apparently follows an ancient calendar which Freemasons use for planning their meetings. The visitations occur in January or February in which a Masonic trowel is left at the plaque where Benedict Arnold stood the day of Hannah Arnold's funeral. The motive or purpose of the memorials have not been ascertained. Local lore holds that if anyone is within the stone walls of the Norwichtown Burying Grounds, the Norwich Visitor will not tend the graveside. In addition to the Norwich Visitor, there is some local lore regarding supernatural activity allegedly occurring around the gravesite.
