Northern Ontario English
Northern Ontario English has several distinct qualities from West/Central Canadian English. With a francophone population of nearly 10 000, there are several French and English words that are used interchangeably. Northern Ontario Francophones often refer to 'camion' the French word for truck as truck even though they May Be speaking in French. Ex: "J'ai achete' un nouveau truck" would be an acceptable way to tell someone you bought a new truck.
Southern Ontarians often refer to the [cottage] when going to a secondary home typically near water. Northern Ontarians however would refer to that type of place as a camp. Similarly, Northern Ontarians often refer to the Southern Ontario term of back pack (a bag to carry books which is held on the back) as pack sacks. Finally, Northerns often make the grammatical error of saying "I seen someone or something"; the proper term would be "I saw or I've seen"
