Noetix is a privately held business intelligence Software company founded in 1994 that assists customers in simplifying access to data from their enterprise applications. The company is headquartered in Redmond, Washington.

History

In 1996, Aris Software acquired Noetix and the NoetixViews technology. NoetixViews provides organizations running Oracle applications with faster, easier access to operational data.

In September 2000, Aris Software was spun off as a separate company, creating Noetix Corporation and extending the functionality of NoetixViews to the Noetix Solution, an integrated family of products for operational reporting.

NoetixViews has earned something of a cult following from IT executives tasked with extracting data from Oracle E-Business Suite applications for use in business intelligence solutions. According to Oracle Discoverer 10g Handbook authors: “During the course of our consultations, we are frequently asked why companies should use NoetixViews… To this we answer, ‘if you have Oracle E-Business Suite, you cannot afford not to use NoetixViews!’"

In 2008, Noetix was awarded a U.S. patent for its MetaBuilder business intelligence reporting technology. The U.S. patent 7,350,191 covers the process by which Noetix’s MetaBuilder technology automatically scans an enterprise application’s setup, discovers its unique configurations, and generates metadata. The generated metadata enables companies to setup and manage database mappings on business terms that kickstart the business intelligence reporting effort. Noetix MetaBuilder technology speeds and simplifies access to data by presenting the information in context that end users understand. This process empowers the business user to access the information directly without assistance from an IT expert.

In October 2009, Noetix acquired business intelligence analytics company, Jaros Technologies Corporation, a company specializing in packaged analytics for Oracle E-Business Suite.

Leveraging technology obtained from the acquisition, Noetix introduced Noetix Analytics, a packaged analytics solution for Oracle Applications customers that significantly reduces the manual effort required to execute a data warehouse strategy and enables historical analysis and trend reporting to complement the real-time query capability of the company’s NoetixViews product.

Noetix Analytics was chosen as a finalist for the 2011 Stevie American Business Awards in the category for New Computer Software Product or Service of the Year (for companies with up to 2,500 employees).

A Forrester Research report defines Noetix as a Data Discovery Accelerator: Noetix provides a solution that helps business analysts discover where disparate data resides across multiple sources within an enterprise. Data Discovery is part of a data-mapping exercise and pre-ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) step and is an extremely time-consuming process. First, business analysts typically use simple SQL query tools to analyze the data, then load it into spreadsheets and finally create requirements and rules for ETL developers. For a large, complex enterprise, Forrester estimates this data discovery work accounts for between 50 and 80 percent of the entire BI effort.

According to the Forrester report, ERP data models are complex, difficult to understand and don’t easily allow for customized reporting. Noetix provides business users with a way to access the data they need through a process that analyzes existing metadata, and creates multiple logical simplified views on top of a complex physical schema. Any BI tool can then easily use these views.
