AbOUT Noelle Sheridan

Noelle Sheridan has had many experiences in life. Some exposed her to extremes of grief, hopelessness, fear, and separation. She has crawled back from the depths of these experiences and is now imbued with the energy and power to experience and harness the gifts of those experiences: love, hope, courage, and compassion. This is her story.

In Her Own Words…

"My desire is that my experiences will give hope to young girls and women around the world. I hope my story may serve as inspiration and strength to those who have dealt with similar situations or feelings. May we all find value, love and purpose in ourselves and be the source for the same in others. May we all realize that we can live a life of courage and purpose using the resources both within and around us."

"I Dream to Run…"

"As a very young girl I would watch the Los Angeles and Boston Marathons on television with fascination and think to myself “how cool would it be” to accomplish something so enduring and so great.

Growing up in Southern California, I was blessed with a father, John Sheridan, who was tremendously supportive and a driving force in all my endeavors.

Soon I found myself running. When I got to high school, my father encouraged me to compete in cross-country. He attended all of my race events in high school and he kept every trophy. He was truly my biggest fan and the best father a girl could have asked for. He always made both my brother and I feel like we could do anything."

The Downward Spiral

"However, during those formative years, I made some choices that I thought would have little consequence, and it wasn’t long before I found myself caught up in an insidious cycle of forfeiting my dreams and abilities. Eventually this cycle swallowed up not only my desire to run marathons but my dignity as well. In the end, my life had become devoid of happiness and filled with despair.

I fell into the abyss of substance abuse and for two excruciating years of my life I was not able to do, feel, or dream. My life was ending and I could do nothing to stop it from happening. In the end, I found myself in a run down house without even the luxury of hot water. There was nothing left. I got on my knees and asked God for help.

It was then that I began my new life of recovery and self discovery. Over the past decade, with the help of my close friend's (whom I now consider family) I was able to put my life back together, brick by brick.

One dream I had was to become a flight attendant. Through my recovery process, I was able pursue and obtain a position in that career. Running also found its way back in my life and had actually proved to be a key in my recovery process.

When I run I feel like I am using the same endurance and strength that I wasted on negative and harmful things that made me unhappy, and instead, I am expending it in a positive way. I am able to obtain the peace and serenity that only comes from a good, long run."

The Motivation Behind My Endeavor...

"My career evolved and I found myself based on the other side of the country in Boston. One day I received a life changing phone call from my brother with the news that my father had died. He was the most loving and understanding individual I have ever known and proved that disease of alcoholism does not discriminate. At the age of 48, my father died as a result of his own battle with substance abuse.

Through it all, I kept my father’s influence in my heart and his spirit has always stayed with me, every step of the way. Regardless of whether it’s a marathon or just another day in the life, I still try to make him proud of the person I’ve become. I am the woman he wanted me to be."

Noelle and her son Benjamin

"I’ve Been Blessed and Have Truly Been Given a New Lease on Life..."

"In 2001 I ran my first marathon in New Orleans with my uncle Rad whom always inspired and motivated me to run long distance. Since then I’ve completed many marathons and have finished most in the sub 4 category. I’ve received many medals and enjoy running and placing in different local 10k's and half Marathons."

"On September 5th, 2002 I gave birth to a beautiful son and in an instant was given the ultimate gift of experiencing and knowing real unconditional love. Benjamin is the main inspiration and motivational force in my life today. He is truly a good natured and naturally generous soul, who reminds, and inspires me everyday of the kind of person I would like to become.

Unfortunately my marriage did not last, and in 2005 I found myself in the middle of a divorce as well as the overwhelming sense of responsibility that comes with being a single mother. Only now do I feel truly blessed to have had all of my past experiences. I often draw on those rough times to find the strength, determination and motivation that I need to succeed.

It is now more important than ever that I encourage my growing little man to be brave and strong, and more importantly to always go after his dreams…just as my father did for me."

Living the Dream

"In May of 2006 I fulfilled my dream of running the Great Wall of China Marathon. It was during this adventure that it became ever so clear that success is never really final! With the encouragement from a fellow athletes, I decided to look further into my running adventures and see about taking on all 7 continents."

Noelle's medals

"On September 19th 2006 I awoke in Sydney Australia and celebrated 10 years of sobriety. I had just completed my 10th Marathon and my 4th Continent in my race around the world. This was a far cry from where I was 10 years ago.

Upon further research in preparing for my adventure I had learned that no woman had ever run all 7 continents in less than a year. The thought of completing this endeavor weighed heavy on my heart. It became something I knew I must do.

So, I purchased the web site, I dug in, and got serious about planning and calculating my trips. During this period, the reality set in: I would actually be running SEVEN Marathons on SEVEN Continents in SEVEN Months. What a dream!

Accomplishing this feat will place me in the Guinness Book of World Records, but, this is something I want to serve as an example to my son and as an inspiration to others."
