Nick Smith Foundation

The Nick Smith Foundation was founded by British milliner, socialite, designer, author, recording artist and actor Nick Smith.

The Nick Smith Foundation is an American 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization providing information and support to those with eating disorders. The mission of the Nick Smith Foundation is to “make a difference in the lives of individuals with eating disorders”, leading efforts that promote health and well-being through prevention and control of chronic diseases.

Nick Smith has been quoted to say “Children are the seeds of our future. They need to be loved and nurtured to grow organically and blossom. But when they live a nightmare and suffer in silence, it's hard to dream. For some, who are subjected to an insensitive obesity crusade in schools via attempts to promote healthy eating, pupils are becoming acutely aware of their weight and inadvertently motivated to explore potentially negative and dangerous consequences. Research suggests that students suffering from the disease aged 11-18 strongly believe that their illness was 'nurtured, exacerbated or sometimes even caused by the well-meaning action in schools'. Fragile and weak, the bodies of anorexia victims fight against life and inside they cease to live whilst merely moving through motions of existence. Whilst on the other end of the spectrum, one in five students are comfort eating to the extent that they have developed obesity, which leads to an array of serious medical conditions including Coronary heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, Cancer, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, Stroke, Liver and gallbladder disease, Sleep apnea and respiratory problems, Osteoarthritis and Gynecological problems. In partnership we strive to turn negative into positive bringing a new sense of worth. This is our declaration to bring Love, Light and Hope to a new era of public service.”
