Nicholas Edward Seeliger

Nicholas Seeliger (born August 19, 1980) is an American Physician and Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine. He is the founder and medical director of the medical humanitarian non-profit Healing Peru.

From 2002 to 2006, Seeliger studied at Florida State University and was recognized with the University's Undergraduate Award for General Chemistry. He was later honored with membership to The College of Arts and Sciences Phi Beta Kappa Society in 2001 and graduated with his B.S. in Biological Sciences Cum Laude in 2002. He then immediately matriculated as a medical student to the Florida State University College of Medicine. During these formative years he was an ACTIVE participant in medical humanitarian projects in rural El Salvador, Haiti, Panama, Mexico, and Ghana. He then went to complete Graduate Medical Education in Family Medicine at Eglin Air Force Base and was commissioned as a Captain in the United States Air Force in 2002. While a resident he created an Area of Concentration in Global Health and through this founded the non-profit organization Healing Peru. He was awarded a Certificate in Tropical Medicine from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in 2007. Also, during his tenure at Eglin AFB he successfully completed the prestigious International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance (I.D.H.A.) at Fordham University in collaboration with the United Nations Staff College. Seeliger was hand-selected as a physician to collaborate with the Peruvian Navy providing free medical care to indigenous populations along the Peruvian Amazon in 2009. Seeliger was honored with the nomination for Ten Outstanding Young Americans (TOYA) by his program director Col James Hayne upon graduation. Seeliger and colleagues were selected for publication in the journal of Environmental and Wilderness Medicine: "Chronic Mountain Sickness in the Peruvian Andes".

Award

From 2009 to 2011, Seeliger proudly served his nation at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. Seeliger was honored with The Meritorious Service Medal after serving as Family Physician and the Officer in Charge of the USAF's Personnel Reliability Program. In 2011, Seeliger was offered the Dean's Scholarship for a Master's in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. From 2011-2013, Seeliger was station at Lajes Air Base, Portugal. Upon promotion to the rank of Major, Dr. Seeliger was selected to lead as Flight Commander to the Clinical Medicine Flight. Dr. Seeliger's clinic at Lajes was honored with being named "The Best Patient Centered Medical Home in the USAF" for the year 2012.

Currently, Dr. Seeliger is an Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine. He continues humanitarian work through participation with the University's program's at Bridge House and Ozanan Inn free clinics. Seeliger most recently completed another project in the Peruvian Andes in April 2013. He was the Key Note speaker at the Greater New Orleans Area Grand Rounds presenting a unique case of Dengue Fever. He continues to coordinate and lead medical projects in the Peruvian Andes.
