History
Nexsan was founded in Derby, England in 1999. In 2001, the company introduced its first product into the Disk-to-disk backup market, releasing the data storage industry's first ATA RAID controller that was developed and optimized specifically for ATA drives. Since 1999, the company has manufactured hardware storage systems ranging from SATA and SAS storage for NAS and SAN, and onward to Hybrid array storage systems, which leverage solid-state memory to increase random I/O performance for demanding databases and virtualized environments, as well as Long term, highly secure data archiving storage systems. The company has developed unique software components like their AutoMAID power management and FASTier solid-state caching as well as a multisite key management system.. Nexsan was purchased by Imation on December 31, 2012.
