NewsCenter II

NewsCenter II was a news music composition composed as the successor theme for the original NewsCenter music by Michael Randall. Like its predecessor, it was commissioned by KNBC, the NBC owned-and-operated station in Los Angeles.

Background
In 1979, Michael Randall had composed the disco-flavored original NewsCenter theme initially commissioned by KNBC. This theme soon spread to other stations (primarily NBC affiliates) over the next few years.

As disco faded out however, it became apparent by 1981 that the NewsCenter theme had quickly become dated. So KNBC commissioned Randall to compose an updated theme, which he called NewsCenter II. The theme would be used until the early 1990s (In fact WSFA, an NBC affiliate in Montgomery, Alabama, used the theme until 1996).
