New Youth Parliament of Canada

The New Youth Parliament of Canada (YPC) is a Canadian national youth organization founded in 2007. The YPC is a mirror of the Canadian parliamentary system. Its mandate is to "[enable] youth to use their energy and passion to change their community, province, country, and world for the better." The first elections for the new YPC will occur in November 2008. The organization's objectives are set out in its handbook. Its goals are to encourage all Canadian youth aged between 14 and 24, inclusive, to participate in learning more AbOUT the parliamentary system of government through ACTIVE participation and to affect real positive change.

The election date for the First Parliament is planned during the month of November 2008.

2008 election

The 2008 Canadian Youth election, or more formally, the First Youth General Election is to be held during November 2008. As of yet, there has been no front runner, and most parties do not have all of their candidates selected yet.

Currently, there are 11 parties fielding candidates in the election. These parties can mirror existing or defunct federal parties in Canada, or can be unique. Members are also welcome to run as independents.
