Net Transport

Net Transport (also known as NetXfer) is a closed source download manager and stream ripper for Windows made by Xi Software. It is released as shareware, with a 90 day trial.

The company also develops FTP Transport, which is included with Net Transport.

Features

Net Transport can currently download data via the following protocols:

  • HTTP / HTTPS
  • FTP / through SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) / SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)
  • MMS (Microsoft Media Services)
  • RTSP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol)
  • PNM (rename PNM to RTSP)
  • BitTorrent
  • eMule

The program supports both SSL and SSH upload and download standards. It does not seem to interface well with Firefox, however, the FlashGot Firefox extension improves this functionality.

Net Transport is particularly valuable for downloading .RM files that are listed inside a .RAM description file. An example is the BBC Radio player 'Listen Again' feature.

Versions

  • Version 1.87 is the last freeware version, and is still available on some freeware sites, such as OldVersion.com.
  • Version 1.90 is the first shareware version, however it does not contain any nag screens or limits, and thus could be used as freeware even though it technically isn't.
  • Version 1.91 is the first shareware version to include nag screens.

As of September 2006, Net Transport is available in both Unicode and ANSI versions.
