Neighbouring Rights Collective of Canada

The Neighbouring Rights Collective of Canada is a not-for-profit umbrella collective that administers the rights of performers (musicians) and makers (record companies) to be paid equitable remuneration (also called a neighbouring right) for the public performance or communication to the public by telecommunication of their recordings in Canada. Among other things, this involves filing and defending copyright tariffs with Canada’s Copyright Board, as well as collecting performance royalties and distributing them to other collectives of individual musicians and record companies in Canada and worldwide.

The five collectives that NRCC represents are: La société de gestion collective des droits des producteurs de phonogrammes et vidéogrammes du Québec (SOPROQ), the ACTRA Performers’ Rights Society (ACTRA PRS), the Audio-Video Licensing Agency (AVLA), La société de gestion collective de l’Union des artistes (Artistl), and the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada (AFM).
