Nathan Schilz
Nathan Michael Schilz (born May 27, 1985) is a Minneapolis composer and musician originally from Illinois. Through his business, NMS Productions, he has completed many projects for clients from around the country, which have ranged from songwriting jobs to short film scores.
Nathan received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and music at Saint Mary’s University in Winona, MN in 2007, then went on to earn his ProTools certification at the Institute of Production and Recording (IPR) in Minneapolis in 2008. He took part in a short internship at a local recording studio called What’s Hennepin just as he was finishing his certification at IPR, and in March of 2008, began doing business as the owner and sole proprietor of NMS Productions.
With NMS Productions, Nathan does the vast majority of his work in a fully equipped recording space in his home called Studio Alethea. It is there that he communicates with clients, records instruments and voice, syncs music with filmed scenes, and composes new works. His original compositions have ranged from meditative tracks,to rock songs although his work is most commonly requested on short film projects, which have become a specialty of sorts.
Asked to describe his approach to film scoring, Nathan has said
“Music, for me, is always a journey with an infinite number of destinations. It is my job as a film composer to realize, within the structure given to me by the director, the true work of art that is the marriage between my thoughts and his.”
