Nathan Curtis “N8te” (born Nathan D. L. Curtis September 3, 1993) is an International poet, lyricist, educator, entrepreneur and Social Activist from The Bahamas. He has published 4 adult poetry collections and one children’s poetry collection internationally since starting his career in 2012. Curtis became a poet and writer by chance, having internalized his emotions he started to pen words from primary school and noticed they were lyrics, and recognized poetry not knowing it would one day be what it is today he continued naively writing. It was a literature class in high school where the assignment was to write poetry that he realized that his writing was different from the rest of the class being complicated and straight forward at the same time and continued to write his many issues and the issues of others down. With the publication of Truth Be Told?; his recent publication this year, questions of Curtis personal life came into question mainly his sexuality because of his pure respect and fight for LGBT rights in some of his poetry. Social Activism through poetry also writing about human trafficking, governance and many other issues. Curtis took the bridle off his poetic voice.

Life and career

Early Years

Nathan D. L. Curtis was born in Freeport, Bahamas on September 23, 1993, the fourth child of Bishop Cyril Curtis, a welder and Church of God Bishop and Kay Curtis an office administrator. Curtis family nicknamed him “Naye” which he later changed to Nate and finally his unique pen-name today “N8te”. Curtis childhood nickname “Naye” which some of his family members still affectionately call him today was the title of his children’s poetry collection “Nae The Sugar Glider Poet” published 2014. Curtis lived a very careful life as a youth having to always be mindful of those watching because who his father was but this quickly changed in adult hood.

Adulthood and early career: 2012-present

Curtis, single has not found love as is evident in his writings but writes about the love he would want and what others may want. As an adult Curtis is not blatant as some would like him to be but hides the boldness of man in carefully thought out figurative speeches that allows him to show a more care free side of him of what others may think.

From 2012 to this present time Curtis has written five collections notwithstanding the lyrics he writes that is submitted to Broadway and numerous musical artist. At the age of 21 Curtis has a brand as a connector. Having formulated the site Huhntlu.com in early 2014 so writers can express themselves anonymously and not be chastised for their literature; In this case Curtis shows how he connect words to people and people to themselves.

In the ladder part of 2014 N8te formulated Curtis Research Group devoted to Natural Science, Public Health and Economic research and has subsequently published a few articles to date.

Personal life

N8te though a writer which is an open and public career is very private never having to much to say about his personal life other than which directly reflects his writings. A recluse some would say and has been evident in many interviews shying away from certain questions or vaguely answering some and is often reflected in reports written about him.

Curtis is a Roman Catholic with one brother, two sisters. Unmarried and has no intention of it any time soon as he makes clear in interview session earlier in 2014.

Works

N8te has written a total of five poetry collections so far and indicates that he plans to continue writing. Curtis has also submitted numerous lyrics to Broadway and musical artist for recordings and serves as a reviewer for The National Environmental Health Association Journal. Reception and Legacy

Influence

N8te was hailed as the youngest Bahamian to publish internationally, publishing Songs of A Melancholy Heart in 2012 at the age of 18. Subsequently he is also the youngest individual on staff at a tertiary institute in The Bahamas and was one of the youngest members in his high school class. Being the youngest is no stranger to him but he presents with an older wisdom as some critics say.

Critical Reception

Upon republishing after a two year hiatus critics gave Curtis four out of five stars for” Truth Be Told?”. Curtis work with organizations fighting for LGBT rights, against human trafficking, domestic violence, and other issues in his poetry allows not only for him to become widely known as a young social activist but also his writings to be known with some organizations using it to spearhead their campaigns.

Awards and Honors

Curtis has been awarded by special interest groups for being an outstanding youth and a few of his collections have been adorned with the Gold Seal. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Research

Being in academia Curtis has authored papers on “Oil Drilling in The Caribbean”, “Pollution”, and has recently developed theories for cell manipulation to organically produce resveratrol that fights the immunologic effects of cancer and introduced a new theory of pressure in the subject of physics expanding on Pascal’s theory of Pressure.
