Mound Road (Detroit area)

Mound Road is a 27 mile (45 km) long principal arterial road in the Metro Detroit area. Its southern terminus is near the Forest Lawn Cemetery in the city of Detroit, and its northern terminus is at 32 Mile Road near Romeo. Mound Road near River Bends Park on the Clinton River in Rochester Hills, Michigan is cut off for 1 mile (1.6 km).

In the 1960s, plans to make Mound Road a full freeway and a part of M-53 were halted due to local, residential and business opposition. The I-696 and Mound Road interchange is marked by a stack junction.

The Conrail Shared Assets Operations's Sterling Secondary (former Penn Central nee New York Central) rail road runs adjacent to the road.

Mound Road derived its name from the numerous Indian Mounds previously located along the present day route.
