Originally a solo project started by Andrew Shelp in 2006, the line up has varied from one to six members and the current lineup has been together for just over one year. Moss Folk's main influences are the Fluxus and Neo-Dada movements of the 60's incorporating different types of artistic media, mainly visual, along with the music. Other influences are: Western Saharan guitar music of the Tuareg, Indian tabla and sitar mantra music. The Kosmische movement of early 70's Germany consisting of such groups as Ash Ra Tempel, Cluster and Harmonia. Minimalist composers Terry Riley and La Monte Young, as well as early punk bands such as The Stooges, [...] and Television.

Their music has been described as: Pulsing, minimal tribal rhythms. Swirling, ethereal guitars. Ambient, droning electronics. Chanted, mantra-like vocals.
