Montfort Ecomuseum
The Ecomuseum of the district of Montfort is a French ecomuseum located in Montfort-sur-Meu, at 25 Km from Rennes, near the forest of Paimpont.
Construction of the ecomuseum
The project of the ecomuseum was initiated thanks to the meeting between M. Dagon de la Conterie, director of Cultural Affairs of Brittany, Simone Morand, and André Ronceray in June 1979 and also to the support of Maurice Blanchard, deputy of culture at the town hall of Montfort.
- Mars 1980: Simone Morand arrives and opens the workshop "Poupée" (= dolls) to prepare an exhibition on the suits which will take place in the room called "salle des marronniers".
- 1981: Constitutive General Assembly of the "Cultural Association of the ecomuseum of the district of Montfort".
- January 1982: birth of the "Cultural Association of the ecomuseum of the district of Montfort" by fusion between "Friends of Montfort" and "Traditional research centre".
- 1983: Simone Morand resignes as the director of the ecomuseum. She is then replaced by Gaby Marcon.
The transfer in the tower
Gaby Marcon, conservative who will leave the ecomuseum in 1994, had the same delicate work to assure the transfer of the ecomuseum in the tower and to undertake the diversification of the activities. This year assured the durability of the ecomuseum. Inauguration og the Tower the Saturday, 30 June 1984 which becomes "House of the district" and houses the ecomuseum but also the Tourist board during summer. Works started in 1979 and finished in 1987. The whole building, with its annexes (office, reception, temporary and permanent exhibition rooms) will only be finished in 1992.
