Mohammad Aijaz Asad
Mohammad Aijaz Asad is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who is serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Shopian, in the state of Jammu And Kashmir. He is a 2012 batch Indian Administrative Service officer from J&K cadre and a resident of village Dharana in Mendhar of District Poonch of Jammu and Kashmir.
Early Life
Mohammad Aijaz Asad hails from Dharana village in the border district of Poonch, J&K, along the LoC. Village Dharana has lived through gunfights and cross-LoC shelling. It is in this atmosphere of fear and uncertainty that Aijaz had his early schooling. His father, Choudhary Ghulam Nabi is an Assistant Engineer in Rural Engineering Wing of Rural Development Department in Poonch and his mother is a housewife. He used to walk 8 km to and from everyday for his school.
Education
Mohammad Aijaz Asad got his schooling up to 10th standard from Government Higher Secondary School Mendhar. Thereafter, he shifted to SM Jain Higher Secondary school in Jammu. Aijaz cleared IIT JEE and got admission in B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi.
Career
After graduating from IIT Delhi, Aijaz Asad worked in a Delhi based engineering consultancy, Engineers India Limited (EIL). In 2011, he became the third person from District Poonch to qualify Indian Civil Service Examination. He got The INDIAN Revenue Service and designated as Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax. He then re-appeared in the CSE and got into Indian Administrative Service, thus became the first IAS officer from District Poonch. He thus got the J&K cadre. He was ranked in the top 100 list of the 2012 batch of IAS officers after completing his training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie
In 2014, Aijaz Asad was appointed as SDM of Khansahib Sub-Division in Budgam district. He was Returning Officer for 29 Khansahib Assembly and SVEEP (Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation) activities ensured a historic return of 83% for which he was awarded Best ERO Award by the Election Commission of India.
In 2015, Mr Aijaz was posted as Deputy/Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister, Late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, of Jammu and Kashmir.
From April 2016 to June 2017, Mohammad Aijaz Asad assumed charge as Deputy Commissioner Ramban. In June 2017 he assumed charge as Deputy Commissioner Shopian.
Aijaz Asad, during his tenure of almost one year as Deputy Commissioner in District Ramban, initiated a number of steps aimed at development of district Ramban. The people of District Ramban praised him as the team leader for providing good governance, people-friendly work culture and countless achievements for effectively implementing different government schemes on ground. His transfer from district Ramban to district Shopian triggered the protests in Ramban, Banihal and Gool. In Ramban, the protesters led by local youth leader Shahrukh Bhatti came out on road and held a demonstration against his transfer.
Poetry
Mohammad Aijaz Asad is a noted Urdu Poet. His poetry include Romantic and Political Satire. He has also represented the state and the country on various national and international urdu poetry symposiums (Mushaira).
Awards
- Best Electoral Practices Award, 2017, for recording highest enrollment of electors in J&K State and new additions in the district Ramban.
