Model solar car

A '''model solar car''' is a small solar powered vehicle. It can be powered from both batteries and solar, however its primary source of energy from the sun.

Model solar cars are built and raced by high school students at a competition level. Official competitions are run in Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory. The top finishers from these competitions then represent their state or territory at the Australian-International Model Solar Car Challenge.

The cars compete around a two lane 100m figure of eight track. The surface is a smooth ply-wood type material with two strips of PVC to guide the cars around. There is a small rise over the start/finish line.

Competitions are usually run across two days with time trials held on the first day with the fastest 32 cars progressing to the knock-out finals the next day.
