Mocha (rapper)
Aleesha J. Rivers a.k.a. (Mocha) or AJ Rivers is an African-American rapper. She has worked with Missy Elliott numerous of times. In 1997, She signed to Missy Elliott's "The Goldmind Inc." label. In 1998, Mocha appeared on Nicole Wray debut album "Make It Hot". Mocha appeared in tracks of "In Da Street and Make It Hot".
In 1998, she appeared again in Timbaland's solo album "Tim's Bio", MC Lyte's album "Seven & Seven", "Why Do Fools Fall in Love Soundtrack" and a collaboration with Missy and Nicole on DJ Clue's "The Professional" album. The collaboration of Missy Elliott, Nicole Wray, and herself had proven to produce a ladies third hit. In 1999, Mocha stepped in spotlight by herself. She wrote songs by along with "Missy Elliott, Timbaland, and Brian Morgan". Her debut album, Bella Mafia was suppose to release in 2001, although Mocha left the label because her album was under the shadows. In 2002, Mocha retired from rapping and started writing books. In 2005, Mocha appeared again along with Nicole Wray in Lil' Nikki's first album "The Prelimaries". The track was called "Rich Girlz". In 2007, Mocha came back and released her New album "One Day At A Time".
The Beginnings
Mocha, born Aleesha J. Rivers, was a rapper in the late 90's. Mocha was nearly introduced on Missy Elliott's first album, SUPA Dupa Fly. Mocha appeared on the song "Hit 'Em Wit Da Hee", and on the remix of the song. However she was uncredited on the original version but was introduced on the remix. Which got Mocha to sign in Missy Elliott's label, The Goldmind Inc. After Missy's hit single, "Hit 'Em Wit Da Hee" was released, Mocha appeared on Missy Elliott protégé Nicole's album, Make It Hot. She was first featured on Nicole's hit single "Make it Hot", which gained full attention and excellent air play. Mocha was then recognized as one of Missy Elliott's protégés. After "Make It Hot" was released, Mocha was featured on the second single of Nicole's, "I Can't See", sadly, Mocha was only featured on the alternate version, but the alternate version, became the single. After the single was released, Mocha then began to work on her first album, Bella Mafia.
Bella Mafia
In 1999, Mocha began to work on her album: Bella Mafia, which featured collaborations with hit producers: Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Brian Alexander Morgan, & more. Mocha's first single, "Runnin' S***", was released in early 2000. The single featured Timbaland, and sold a few copies. Sadly, the single, didn't make it to the charts, but her album was about to be released in 2000, along with Missy Elliott protégé Nicole's album: Elektric Blue. But then plans were changed, when new artist Torrey Carter was signed to The Goldmind Inc. Which caused Nicole's, Mocha's, and Danja Mowf's (who at the time was recently signed to The Goldmind Inc. also) albums, to be pushed back to early 2001. However, Torrey Carter left the label without releasing his long-awaited album: The Life I Live. After Torrey left, Mocha released her next single, "Mardi Gras", which seems to be the successful single of the album to date, was released. The single featured Missy Elliott & new comer Lil' Mo. However, this single also didn't reach the charts, which caused Mocha's album: Bella Mafia, not noticed. In 2001, it was time for Mocha's album to be released, sadly, Mocha left the label and didn't want to release the album, because the album wasn't noticed. So Mocha's album was shelved, however, during the time Mocha's last single off her album, which was, "I Know Whutcha U Like", was released. It featured Missy Elliott, Petey Pablo, & Lil' Mo. The single also contained 2 other tracks which were: "Talkin' Crazy" (produced by Timbaland), and "The Streetz" (featuring Lil' Mo).
Retirement
Shortly after the split of The Goldmind Inc., Mocha decided to retire from rapping, and write books instead, but before she did so, she decided to do one last song, called "Feel Me", which was on the album: Rapha Productions presents... At Last - The Compilation. After she completed the song, she retired and began to write her books. In 2005, Mocha reunited with long time friend, Nicole, who at the time switched her stage name to Nicole Wray, and the 2 were featured on new artist's, Lil' Nikki, song: Rich Girlz. After Mocha reunited with Nicole, it gave Mocha an idea to make a new album.
One Day At a Time
Since the reunitation with Nicole Wray, Mocha began working on her new album: One Day At A Time. In 2006, Mocha began to work, and she was signed to a new label, called Indy. The album was originally to be released in 2006, but was pushed back to a later date in 2007. In November 2007, Mocha's album was released only in her fansite. It's unknown why the album wasn't released in other stores, but the album has been released. After the release of Mocha's second album, it's rumored that Mocha is working on a comeback album, (which might be released in other stores), which is expected to be released in fall 2008, but so forth, no tracks have been confirmed yet.
