Migration Institute of Australia
The Migration Institute of Australia (M.I.A.) is a professional organisation representing Migration Agents in Australia.
Overview
The M.I.A. has two clear roles:
1. Appointed by the Australian Government to regulate the Migration Agent industry 1 in 1992 2. The M.I.A. did this by creating the Migration Agents Registration Authority (The MARA)3. Prior to the M.I.A., there was the Australian Migration Consultants Association (AMCA)4.
2. As a professional body, it provides optional membership for agents that want to have the highest level of professionalism. The M.I.A. does this via:
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities 5
- Newsletters 6
- Representing the industry to the Australian government, via submissions 7. For example, see 8 and 9
- Having and enforcing a code of conduct 10
According to their website and the register of agents, approximately 40% of Migration Agents are also members of the M.I.A.
