Microfinance Gateway

The Microfinance Gateway 1 is a comprehensive online resource of information for and AbOUT the microfinance industry. It includes research and publications, specialized resource centers, original articles, and organization and consultant profiles, as well as microfinance-related news items, events, and job opportunities.

Information for the Microfinance Gateway is collected in two ways: first, via submissions from microfinance professionals and second, via staff research. Contents of the Microfinance Gateway are primarily in English. The Microfinance Gateway works with partner organizations in France/Luxembourg (GRET and ADA), Egypt (Sanabel Network), and Costa Rica (INCAE) to host French, Arabic, and Spanish (forthcoming) affiliate language sites.

One full-time manager and one associate work on the Microfinance Gateway in Washington, DC, and four content managers work from a partner firm in India.

The Microfinance Gateway(TM) is a project of CGAP, but provides a platform for a diverse range of voices within the microfinance industry. [1] It does not provide funding to other organizations.

Site Sections

  • The News section gathers microfinance-related news stories on a daily basis.
  • Regular “Highlights” are short presentations on topics of interest, such as microfinance in China and Islamic banking, together with summaries of newly published articles, books, and recent public seminars.
  • The Library holds approximately 7,000 documents on all aspects of microfinance, together with reviews and summaries of articles, books and operational tools;
  • Several topical Resource Centers present recent publications, case studies, research, and knowledge on important topics in microfinance. Current Resource Centers include: Microfinance Regulation and Supervision, Social Performance, Savings, and Microinsurance.
  • The Events section shows upcoming conferences and training workshops around the world;
  • The database of over 1,000 Organizations is searchable by region, country, and type;
  • A Consultants database lists profiles and CVs/resumes of more than 400 specialists;
  • New microfinance-related Jobs and Internships are posted daily.

Submission Policy

The Microfinance Gateway accepts submissions of articles, reports, papers, news items, and job postings as well as the creation of organization and consultant profiles. All materials are reviewed by staff before they are posted to ensure relevance to the field of microfinance. Library documents are indexed by Microfinance Gateway staff before they are posted online.

The site’s editorial policy states that it does not demonstrate preference toward any agenda, group, or model in microfinance.
