Michigun(Geometry Dash player)

Michigun (9 December 1996 – 10 March 2021) was an Austrian mobile player. Michigun was recognised as one of the fastest star-grinders in the game. He amassed a total of 61,639 stars, 12,502 user coins, 16,661 diamonds, 1,000 Demons and 17 creator points. Michigun also created numerous levels inspired by temples from The Legend of Zelda series.

History

Early life

Born in Austria, Michael Reisner developed a massive passion for Geometry Dash during its early era. Known widely by his online handle Michigun, he spent his early days dominating the game's leaderboards on mobile, ultimately becoming the most decorated player in the community.

The Triple-Spike icon

Michigun's signature trademark was the notoriously difficult triple-spike jump. He became famous for using these closely grouped spikes in his levels, and it became an homage in the community to use the combination of three "/\" symbols in text posts to honor him.

Top 1 Rank

Michigun rose to fame in late 2015 when he secured the #1 rank on the Top 100, surpassing players like zNymo98. However, by April 2017, he was surpassed by Shaggy23, and later by Noctalium in June. By the end of 2017, Michigun had ceased to be competitive at the top of the leaderboard.

Retirement message

On 8 December 2017, Michigun posted a cryptic status message: 'game over. I wish you all the best. ;)', which he later confirmed was his announcement of retirement from the game.

Death

Michigun passed away on 10 March 2021. His cause of death was not disclosed, and it was announced by Viprin on 30 March 2021, following a request from Michigun's family to delay the public announcement.

Levels made by Michigun

Michigun created a variety of levels, ranging from Easy to Insane Demon difficulty, many of which were inspired by The Legend of Zelda series.

Easy levels

Double Triple Trial (starred) - A sequel to his other level, The Triple Trial. This level exclusively features 25 sextuple-spike jumps, during which the player travels at quadruple speed. It is Short in length.

Hard levels

The real Flappy Bird (starred) - His first created level. It was inspired by the game Flappy Bird.

Insane levels

The Triple Trial (starred) - A medium-length level that exclusively contains 50 triple-spike jumps in a row. Medium Demon levels Fire Temple - A fire-themed temple level. Lava Temple (featured) - A collaboration with Ggb0y.

Hard Demon levels

Desert Temple - A collaboration between XLetricVenom and The Bil. It was verified and published by Michigun. Forest Temple - A dark forest-themed temple level. It is one of his most famous levels. Shadow Temple - A shadow-themed temple level. Water Temple - His second level ever created and the first one to be inspired by The Legend of Zelda and its temples.

Insane Demon levels

Trip - A collaboration with multiple people, and his final created level.

Nominated in the Geometry Dash 2.0 Awards for Best Temple Level with Forest Temple.

Legacy

Following his death, the Geometry Dash community and developer RobTop paid tribute to his massive influence by leaving triple-spike easter eggs in anniversary videos, posters, and in-game achievements.

Trivia

  • Many levels in Geometry Dash hide the phrases 'every level needs a triple' and 'For Michi' behind triple-spikes, paying homage to Michigun's signature style.
  • One main example is in Amplification; there is a single-spike jump at the end that can be turned into a triple-spike with a key labelled 'Michigun mode'.
  • Michigun was erroneously banned from the leaderboards multiple times due to his high star count.
  • Michigun uploaded a face-reveal video on 11 April 2017, after reaching 100,000 subscribers on YouTube.
  • Michigun is one of the three people in the community credits special thanks page, along with Etzer and Viprin.
  • Michigun has a heart as a tribute.
  • Michigun's last appearance online before he passed away was when he said 'all the Gs my dude' in Mullsy's Tartarus completion.
