Michael Waterstone

Michael Waterstone, an expert in disability and civil rights law, is an American lawyer and academic who has served as dean of UCLA School of Law since August 2023.

Education

He attended UCLA where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science, graduating summa [...] laude in 1995. He earned his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 1999.

Career

He served as the Fritz B. Burns Dean and senior vice president at Loyola Marymount University Loyola Law School from 2016 to 2023, after joining its faculty in 2006.

In January 2008, he testified before the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging on voting challenges faced by older Americans and those with disabilities, at the polling place and in absentee voting.

He has taught at University of Mississippi School of Law, Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and the University of Haifa. Prior to entering academia, he was a litigation associate at Munger, Tolles & Olson in Los Angeles. He clerked for Judge Richard S. Arnold, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
