Advocacy Work
After reading the heart-breaking story of a girl his age battle the horrors of Female Genital Mutilation, it horrified him to know millions of girls could not go to school. That girls his age were forced to marry as children and give birth before their bodies were ready. In his role as youth trustee for Plan International UK, the British Youth Council cites his role in spearheading initiatives to deliver change. From leading internal governance reviews, to collaborating on humanitarian aid projects and pioneering social media campaigns. In his role as national chair of the International Youth Council, BYC establish how he led discussions with policymakers regarding changes to the national curriculum. Bryan commented that he had ‘opened pandora’s box to a wealth of knowledge, and almost simultaneously a chilling reality. A reality that epitomised a desire for action, and underpinned a need for change.’ His role has seen him address Conservative Party Conference as well as the Office of Civil Society Social Action Conference. In addition, Bryan has served on the British Youth Council's 2017 Youth Select Committee.
Parliamentary Record
On 14 July 2017, Bryan used the 45-letter word, pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis during a select committee meeting to highlight the “grave inconsistency” of addressing health conditions, with physical problems given greater precedent than mental health issues. This beats the record set by MP Jacob Rees-Mogg who in 2012 used the 29-letter floccinaucinihilipilification. The use of the word made it the longest ever to be recorded by Hansard.
Awards
Bryan has received the Jubilee Award and been recognised as an #iWill ambassador for iwill Campaign
