Michael Collings (singer)

Michael Collings is an English singer who came to international public attention when he appeared as a contestant on the TV programme Britain's Got Talent on 16 April 2011, singing "Fast Car" written by Tracy Chapman. His performance made news in Great Britain and resulted in the original version of "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman re-entering the UK Charts at number 4 the following week.

Michael Collings became an early favourite to win Britain's Got Talent 2011 after his first audition. He went into the Semi Final show 5 Britain's Got Talent on June 3, 2011 and sang "You do something to me" by Paul Weller and received 4 yes votes from the judges—Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Michael McIntyre and David Hasselhoff—and was therefore voted into the final show.

On the Series 5 Final on 4 June 2011 he sang "Fast Car" once again as his final performance and placed 5th overall after the public vote.

On 20 December 2011 YouTube announced that Collings' version of "Fast Car" was YouTube’s 5th most played video of 2011.

On 7 November 2011 he released his cover version of "Fast Car" on iTunes and Amazon.com.
