Melio FS
Melio FS is a general purpose proprietary Windows based shared disk file system designed by Sanbolic. Melio FS allows multiple servers to simultaneously access data on a shared block storage over a Fibre Channel or iSCSI Storage area network. It is often used to enhance Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix Provisioning Services, Microsoft SQL Server, VMWare, File or Web Serving providing volume high availability and simultaneous read/write block level access by multiple nodes.
Melio FS is well integrated with MS Windows Server families and supports many enterprise file system features including native Windows ACL, cluster-wide Volume Snapshot Service compatible snapshots, MS Fail-Over Clustering, SMB (Server Message Block/Common Internet File System) network file sharing, Distributed File System (Microsoft), Load balancing (computing), Quality of service, extended attributes, mount points, run inside a virtual machine.
Additionally it supports large files and file systems, adding nodes to The Cluster on the fly without need of reconfiguration or service interruption, volume expansion, files system resize, support for multiple operating systems in the same cluster etc.
Hardware
Melio FS is designed to work in SAN-like environments and is hardware agnostic, although it is possible to use it as a single node filesystem, to get the full feature set, a shared SAN LUN is required. This can take the form of iSCSI, FibreChannel, or any other device which can present a block device visible to a number of Windows Servers. In addition to the SAN connectivity used for actual data transfers, IP based network is needed over which cluster nodes will communicate. In case iSCSI is used, it May Be possible to combine interfaces, although its highly recommended to have separate networks for heartbeat/internal node communication and storage due to their inherently different latency/throughput expectancy.
