Matti Markowski
Matti Markowski (born September 19th, 1988) is a German long distance runner. He is currently competing for the club OSC Berlin though he is living in Cologne due to studies at the German Sport University Cologne. Furthermore he is sponsored by ASICS.
Matti Markowski competes in distances from the 5000m up to the half marathon with the 10000m being his favourite distance. His promising career started back in 2004 when he decided to quit playing handball and instead start running. It was only 16 months later that he won the 2005 German Road running Championships over the 10km (age group Under 18) in a time of 31:39 min.
Two years later he earned his biggest victory at 2007 European Athletics Junior Championships in Hengelo/Netherlands where he came in 2nd over the 10000m with a time of 30:10,75 min after having run the final km in 2:42min.
In 2009 he claimed another successful international race: 4th place at the European Under 23 Championships in Kaunas/Lithunia.
His training is very endurance based and rather a bit more intensive than extensive- lactate treshold runs building his key element. His average mileage in the period from February 2009 until July 2009 was around 95km per week.
He has expressed new goals for the season 2010, wanting to run sub 14:00min (5000m), sub 29:00min (10000m) and sub 65min (half marathon).
