Matricide (band)
Matricide is a groove/metalcore band originating from Hod HaSharon, Israel.
History
The band was formed in 2002, by Solitary guitarist Yogev Sitton as a side project, but was soon established as a full band unit with vocalist Yotam "Defiler" Avni of Abed, Eternal Gray guitarist Auria Sapir, Acropoliss/The Fading bassist Elad Manor and Azazel drummer Matan Shmueli. Soon, before the line-up was officialy completed, Manor, who were also ACTIVE with The Fading and Acropolis was replaced by Shahar Guy.
The band's first demo was self-released on May 24, 2003 and featured 5 instrumental tracks without vocals. Although the band haven't played any live shows at the time, they released a second demo with vocals entitled Insurrection, which featured 5 songs, including a cover to Machine Head's "Davidian".
The band played its first show on April 7, 2004 on the Israeli "Northern Exposure" festival along with Dissonant, Asgaut and Tears of Israfel. The band appeared later that year on the "Metalist Festival", and a Swedish metal tribute night in which the band played some Soilwork covers. The band's second untitled demo was recorded during a rehearsal, released on July 11, 2004 and featured 10 tracks, including a cover to Morbid Angel's "Where the Slime Lives?". In late 2004, the band played on the 5th annual Metal till Dawn festival in which they paid tribute to deceased Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrel by playing the Pantera songs "Domination" and "Drag the Waters".
In 2005, vocalist Yotam Avni and drummer Matan Shmueli left the band. Ran Eliahou, drummer for progressive metalcore band 7% Mind Usage and post-hardcore band This Means You took over the vocals position, as drummer Rom Gov of Seek Irony took over the drumming.
Between 2005 and 2007, the band was mostly unactive but was revived in late 2007 and started recording a new EP for release in 2008.
The band came back into the Israeli metal seen in early 2008 and started playing many shows around the country. Most notably, the band played a special show for Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day) along with groove metallers Betzefer and melodic death veterans Prey for Nothing.
The band released its first official EP We Are Alive with special release show, on July 31, 2008, along with Phantom Pain and Requiem for Dawn.
In January 2009, an new 4 song demo was recorded by the band, but was left unreleased. The band played one show in February 2009 before going on a hiatus due to guitarist Auria Sapir's absence from the country for the rest of the year. The band did, however, another show that year, without Auria, as the support act for Down on their only show in Israel in July 2009.
The band returned to the stages on January 15, 2010, with a comeback show, in which they also announced that they are going into the studio to record a full-length studio album in mid-2010, with plans to release the album in late 2010/early 2011.
