Mary Ann Crowe

Mary Ann Maskell Crowe (30 january 1836 Waltham-stowe, Essex, England - 31 july 1945, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia) was an Anglo-Australian supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group and Oldest in Britain. She was 109 years 182 days.

Biography

Mary Ann Crowe was born on January 30, 1836, to Mary Mallion (1812–1883) and William Maskell (1812–1889). In 1861, she married Peter Crowe, who ran a dairy farm in South Hobart. The couple had 11 children. She and her husband arrived in Australia aboard the ship *Pathan*. She was widowed in 1907. On October 15, 1944, following the death of John Francklow, Mary Ann Crow became the oldest person on Earth. She celebrated her 109th birthday on January 30, 1945. Mrs. Crow remained active throughout her life, retaining her physical and mental health until the very end. Mary Ann Crow died on July 31, 1945, at her home at 41 Cascade Road, Hobart. After her death, Rebecca Lees became the oldest person on Earth. She was survived by four children.
