Mark Toro
Mark Toro is an American commercial real estate developer retail operator and social media advocate located in Atlanta, Georgia. He is also ACTIVE in driving walkability and re-urbanization in US cities.
With over 26 years of leadership experience in commercial real estate, the industry veteran has completed more than 60 projects totaling more than 20 million square feet valued at more than $2.5 billion, from concept to completion. He is active in driving walkability and re-urbanization in U.S. cities, serving as chairman of Urban Land Institute Atlanta's Livable Communities Council.
Biography
Toro was born on April 19, 1958 in New Hyde Park, NY, USA. He attended Rutgers University. He is married to Nancy Toro, and the couple has two children.
Career
In 1996, Toro founded the Atlanta office of North American Properties, Ltd. (“NAP”) where he currently serves as Managing Partner and Chairman of the Board. Current projects include Atlantic Station, Avalon (Alpharetta, Georgia), BOHO4W and ParkCentral in Nashville.
Prior to joining NAP, he served as managing director for Faison & Associates and vice president of development at Cousins Properties.
NAP is a privately held, multi-regional real estate operating company that has acquired, developed and managed more than $4 billion of retail, multifamily, mixed use and office properties across the United States.
A leader in retail, mixed-use and multifamily development, Toro has led the acquisition, development and redevelopment of more than 19 million square feet. He is most well known for leading the turnaround of Atlantic Station and the development of Avalon.
Toro is active in the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), and serves on the Midtown Alliance Board (Executive Committee) and Urban Land Institute.
On Sept. 3, 2014, Toro announced that the official grand opening of Avalon will be held Oct. 30, 2014, in Alpharetta, Georgia.
Community Activities
Mark Toro serves as the development partner of City of Refuge Atlanta, helping to advance the organization’s mission to provide a “one-stop-shop” for those in crisis in Atlanta’s most challenged neighborhoods.
He is a frequent public speaker, discussing topics such as social media (MOCIAL), re-urbanization (NAREE) and the Atlanta commercial real estate market (BISNOW State of the Market).
