Margret of Thormond
Princess Margaret of Thomond (c. 1405 – c. 1494) was the Irish wife of John Butler, 6th Earl of Ormond. She moved back to Ireland soon after the birth of her children. At that time, it was contrary to English law for the native Irish people to wed English subjects. She had two sons with John when she was in Derbyshire, England. One of them was Sir James Ormond the second son was John Ormond Esq. Lord of Alfreton, married to Lady Joan Chaworth. She was there at the time because the Presidency of Munster met in Derbyshire near Nottingham. Margaret and her son Sir James Ormond burned several castles and forts in the Butler country. After a time the Butler country submitted to their rule. The Irish Lords and Irish kings considered her son to be the rightful Earl of Ormond.
