Marek Dochnal
Marek Dochnal (born September 16, 1961 in Tarnów) is a Polish businessman and polo player.
In 1990 he founded a company called Proxy with Sergei Gavrilov, a Russian banker who held a passport from Belize. In 1993 Marek Dochnal co-founded the company called Chemico, which was to take over chemical and fuel businesses, but never did. In 1994 he founded the company Larchmont Capital, engaged in advising foreign companies investing in Poland. Among his clients were Lakshmi Mittal. Dochnal helped in PHS steel group privatization, which was Poland's largest. Mittal now controls PHS steel group.
Sergei Gavrilov was expelled from Poland on charges of espionage for the GRU and money laundering.
He was connected to the Orlengate in which £40 million in bribes were allegedly paid to senior Polish politicians by Russian energy giants. Politicians linked to Dochnal reportedly had Swiss bank accounts handled by Peter Vogel.
He allegedly bribed Democratic Left Alliance politician Andrzej Pęczak in exchange for information about privatization of Polish energy sector. His conversations were wiretapped by the Interior Security Agency and Dochnal was arrested on September 28 2004. Dochnal was under temporary detetion. Dochnal charged with giving money, a luxury car, mobile phone. He was also charged with money laundering. He filed a complaint about his detention to Strasbourg and he was released on January 31 2008.
In November 7th 2008 he was arrested because he appeared to attempt to flee the country. A Lithuanian passport, identity card and driving license, which had Dochnal's picture, were found in his belongings.
Dochnal is a friend of Vladimir Putin. The two met in the early 1990s.
