Malström Graintable Synthesizer

The Malström Graintable Synthesizer is a software synthesizer with a 16-voice polyphony found on the Propellerhead Reason software package, based on graintable (mix of granular synthesis and wavetable synthesis) and subtractive synthesis: 2 oscillators generate a waveform (which can be either normal waveforms like Sine wave or sawtooth wave or any of the many graintable waves which can be manipulated in a variety of ways) which is then passed through an optional shaper and either or both filters (lowpass, bandpass, and 3 special modes) to alter the sound. Malström also includes two LFOs, ADSR envelopes for both oscillators and the filter. Malström is able to create stereo sounds, depending of the stereo spread which pans the first oscillator to the left and the second oscillator to the right.

Two of the more powerful features of the Malström are hinted by the yellow stickers on the back of the case:

• Two mono audio inputs can be sent to the Malström's shaper and filter sections from another piece of equipment (such as a Subtractor or NN-series sampler) and processed.
• Each of the Malström's oscillators can be redirected before it reaches the filter/shaper sections and output to another module.

Plugging the jacks from the oscillator output section back into the audio input section is the exact same path the Malström uses internally. Because of this, the input/output jacks can also be used to insert effects before the filter/shaper section. For example, a CF-101 Flanger could be used to change Oscillator A's tone before the filter/shaper and final output sections.
