Mahesh Gupta
Mahesh Gupta (27 September 1954), is an Indian entrepreneur, and the chairman of Kent RO Systems. Best known as India's Pure Water Man, he is the pioneer behind bringing the reverse osmosis (RO) technology to India. He founded Kent RO Systems in 1999 which has developed into one of the major players of the water purifying business in the country. The RO technology addresses the issue of dissolved impurities in drinking water and guarantees 100% pure water with 0% water wastage. This process is patented as the world's first 'zero water wastage' technology developed by Kent RO Systems.
Early life and education
Gupta was educated in Colonel Brown Cambridge School and IIT Kanpur. He subsequently joined The INDIAN Institute of Petroleum in Dehradun. Taking a new job in 1977, he joined the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) and worked on oil conservation. He worked with Indian Oil Corporation Limited for 11 years.
SS Engineering was his first venture into becoming a businessman. SS Engineering made meters used to test the quality of oil. He started this company in his own backyard, and invested 20,000 of his own savings to start the company. The company is still functioning and employs AbOUT 40 people.
Career
Kent RO Systems Ltd was founded in 1999 by Gupta. In 1999, when both his children suffered from jaundice, unimpressed by the water purifiers available in the market, Gupta decided to build one on his own. He quit IOCL, and the first domestic RO water purifier was launched in India. In 2005, the company launched its patented mineral RO technology, which combined the benefits of both RO and UV technologies, thereby retaining natural minerals in the water.
The purifiers manufactured by Kent use reverse osmosis technology and were developed by Gupta.
In 2006, Mahesh Gupta, adopted a brand strategy for Kent, which saw Indian actor Hema Malini and both her daughters Esha and Ahana, featured in electronic and print communication as brand ambassadors.
Personal life
Mahesh Gupta is married to Sunita Gupta, who works with Kent RO as a director. Together they have two children, with daughter Surbhi being the elder and son Varun the younger.
