Mahamandaleshwar Swami Nityananda
Born in Mumbai, India in 1962, Mahamandaleshwar Swami Nityananda and trained hard in his childhood with Guru Shaktipat, renamed Bab Muktananda. He was initiated in the ?mysterious voices of the Siddha gurus, learning several techniques of yoga including mediation, singing Sanskrit, and the study of Vedantan philosophy and Kashmiri Shaivism.
In 1980, aged 18, agreeing with the voice of his Guru, he was initiated in the Sarawati order of monks and received the name Swami Nitayanda from his Guru Baba Kuktananda. In 1981, Bab Muktananda declared Nityanananda his successor and in 1982, at the end of five years' Yagna Chandi, he transferred to Swami Chidvilasananda all of his powers and knowledge in the presence of Mahamandaleshwar Swami Brahamanand Giriji Maharaj.
Swami Nityananda founded Shanti Mandir in 1987 as a vehicle to continue the work of his Guru. Also, he established three ashrams. He travels between these ashrams eaach year, to take part in the spiritual practices that he started there, and to transfer knowledge.
In 1995, aged 32, he was made a Mahamandaleshwar of Mahanirvani Akhara in a traditional ceremony at Haridwar, India, in the ?Acharys and the Saints of the Dasnami tradition established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th Century CE. He is the youngest person ever to have received this spiritual title.
