Lucky Cat is a contemporary restaurant and lounge concept by British chef and restaurateur Gordon Ramsay. The brand is known for its Asian-inspired small plates, sushi and sashimi bar, and robata grill offerings. Originally launched in London’s Mayfair in 2019, the concept has since expanded to multiple locations in the United Kingdom and internationally.

History

Lucky Cat opened in June 2019 in Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, London. The concept was inspired by 1930s Tokyo “kissas” and Shanghai drinking dens, combining vibrant social dining with an open kitchen and raw bar experience.

Subsequent expansions include a Manchester site opened in June 2025 on King Street in a restored Grade II-listed former Midland Bank building.

A Miami Beach, Florida location on Washington Avenue operated seasonally but is currently on pause.

Concept and Design

Lucky Cat’s design draws inspiration from early 20th-century Asian social clubs, combining Japanese and Shanghai aesthetics with a modern twist. The restaurant features shared dining formats, open kitchens, and a raw bar to create a theatrical dining experience.

The name “Lucky Cat” references the Japanese *maneki-neko*, a talisman believed to bring good fortune. Design firm AfroditiKrassa contributed to the restaurant’s visual identity.

Lucky Cat menus emphasize Asian-inspired small plates, sushi, sashimi, and robata-grilled dishes intended for sharing. Seasonal and chef’s table menus are also offered.

  • Manchester: Opened June 2025 on King Street.
  • London (22 Bishopsgate): Opened 2025 on Level 60 of the 22 Bishopsgate building.

Public Reception

Lucky Cat is noted for its interior with numerous *maneki-neko* cat figurines. In early 2025, Gordon Ramsay reported that hundreds of these figurines were stolen from the London site, which attracted media attention.
