Lucie Barât

Lucie Barat is a writer, actress and lead singer of The Fay Wrays

A Biography:

Lucie Barât, sister to Carl Barat(The Libertines, Dirty Pretty Things) originally won a scholarship to drama school. She started a theatre company with her friends on graduation, recruiting Dame Judi Dench as their patron.

She eventually put her acting career aside to concentrate on her writing. This was interrupted by a spell of depression.

She started ‘The Fay Wrays’ whilst finishing her stay at a residential rehab clinic at the beginning of 2005. A turbulent childhood had caught up with her and whilst recovering and receiving therapy, she began penning lyrics and melodies for Alice Temple who had been looking for a writing partner.

The pair then recruited Cammy as a second guitarist, but as he and Lucie went on to form a writing partnership of their own, Alice left the group to concentrate on her solo career.

Cammy (real name, Cameron Angus) moved to London from Dundee with the crazy notion of giving up painting and decorating to become a full time guitarist. During this time he spent lengthy periods playing in rock and hardcore bands like ‘engage’ and ‘J Loveless and the heart attacks’ before finding a more suitable style and direction as guitarist in The Fay Wrays.

Cammy and Lucie have recruited numerous people over the last 2 years to play on various sets and recordings, so as to keep their writing fluid whilst continually moulding their style.

Their debut album is titled 'War cry'. War cry was recorded with only one guitar track and no overdubs (except a bit of feedback on the intro to track 1) and the vocals are almost completely dry throughout. It was the intention of both the band and the producers to create a record that represents how the band actually sound live without all the studio trickery that has become such common place.

It’s produced by Tom McKay and Mark Plati (David Bowie, The cure, Nina Hagen) together they work under the alias of ‘The Macciato Kids’. It was mixed in New York and mastered by Greg Calbi. We used Nick McBrain on Drums and Tom ‘Robbo’ Robertson on bass. He played with The Fay Wrays for almost a year and is definitely one of the most talented young musicians around at the moment. He also plays for ‘The Frake’.
