Loughborough International Students Association

The Loughborough International Students Association (ISA) is an organisation supporting international students at Loughborough University. It is run by a committee of students elected by ISA members annually, and every international student automatically becomes a member. ISA provides the opportunity for overseas students to integrate and harmonise their culture with British society. It addresses any problems or issues that overseas students may have concerning their LifeStyle and studies in Loughborough. The organisation encourages students to make International Friends and explore cultural and geographical diversity.

The ISA provides the following to new international students:

  • Formal representation within the University
  • Promotes, advocates and advances their rights, interests and privileges in the United Kingdom
  • Programs to support and serve the needs of international students
  • Acts as an “umbrella” organization for the International and Multicultural Student Groups at the Loughborough University
  • Social activities such as parties, sports, clubbing and barbecues
  • Information on Loughborough and its surroundings (e.g., things to see and do in Loughborough)

The ISA annually organises International Day, a mini world exhibition, where students from different countries present their culture at their country stalls. It is the biggest event organised in the Union for international students. In the past many diplomats, the Mayor, senior members of the local community, University staff, and media (press, radio and TV) have attended the day. The date for next International Day is 2 May 2007.

Activities

Some of the popular activities of ISA are as follows:

  • Parties: We all have two things in common: 1. We all are students and 2. We all like parties. Therefore to fulfil our cause of having fun around the year we organise lots of parties. Usually held the more than once a month for the international students at the Students Union in university, also we go to pubs/cafes in the town centre for different experience.
  • Trips: For the past few years, ISA has arranged few trips to the cities in UK and Abroad to help our international student to know United Kingdom and Europe. Our past trips have been a great success and we look forward to seeing you in the coming year. Previous destinations have included London, Edinburgh, Bath, Cambridge in UK and Paris, Amsterdam. Before every trip we have poll that will help you put forward your choice.
  • Sports: ISA arrange several sports in both fall and spring Semesters.
  • Barbecues: Held in summer times, these receptions offer a relaxed atmosphere in which international students can come and meet friends in both the international and local communities. Also look for our BBQs in times of nice weather!
