List of locations in Shannara
There are many locations in the Shannara series of epic fantasy novels by Terry Brooks. Most of them are listed here, in alphabetical order.
Arborlon
Arborlon is the capital city of the Elves. It is in the Westland. It is here in that the Elves mount their final DeFence against the demons of the forbidding in the Elfstones of Shannara. In the Elf Queen of Shannara it transpires that the Elves, in order to escape the Federation, used a magical device called the Loden to transport the entire city to a small island far out to sea
Since the siege of Arborlon is a pivotal point of the Sword of Shannara Brooks describes the city in detail. The city sits atop a large plateau called the Carolan, and its steep sides make a natural defence. The only access to the city is up a long causeway called the Bluff. For these reasons the Elves believe their city to be an unassailable fortress. The city of Arborlon is present in nearly all of Brooks' Shannara series, including the prequel series, the Genesis of Shannara.
Baen Draw
Baen Draw was another location where the Elves attempted to slow the Demons. This was the planned fall-back for when Halys Cut and Worl Run eventually fell. After it was suggested by Stee Jans, a new tactic of defending was successfully implemented here, allowing the Elves to hold the pass for a day. The Demons then came again at midnight, but once more the Elves threw them back after Allanon threw a powder into the air, allowing the Elves to see who was attacking them. However, the commander of the army, Kael Pindanon, died in this battle, so Ander decided to name Stee Jans as a replacement. Soon after this occurred, Elven trackers reported that a larger army than the one they were currently facing was attempting to flank them from the north, so the Elves retreated out the Draw back to Arborlon, abandoning the Sarandanon.
Culhaven
Culhaven is city in the Eastland, inhabited by the Dwarves. It served as the Dwarves' capital city until the events of The Wishsong of Shannara, where it was conquered and garrisoned by the Federation and the dwarven populace enslaved.
Drey Wood
Drey Wood was an Elven outpost during the time of the events of The Elfstones of Shannara. The entire garrison was killed to a man by the Reaper when he was stalking Amberle Elessedil, the last Chosen.
Halys Cut
Halys Cut was one of two locations where the Elves first attempted to slow the Demons on their mission to destroy the Ellcrys. The Elves were forced to retreat from the cut, and pulled back. After Allanon defeated a Dragon, the cut was blocked by a massive landslide caused by the enormous creature's fall.
Kingdom of Leah
The Kingdom of Leah is the name of a small nation in the Southland. It is governed by a monarchy, with each king carrying the Sword of Leah. It is located in the highlands south of Rainbow Lake. The citizens of Leah are referred to as 'Highlanders' due to this. Along with its capital, Leah was absorbed into the Federation after the events in The Wishsong of Shannara.
Leah
Leah is a city in the Southland and the capital of the country of the same name. It is a small, out of the way city that receives few visitors due to its location. It was absorbed into the Federation after the events in The Wishsong of Shannara.
Sarandanon
The Sarandanon is the plain that begins just to the west of Arborlon and the Rill Song and continues on unabated until Baen Draw.
Worl Run
Worl Run was the second location where the Elves first attempted to slow the Demons. The Elves were also driven from here and were forced to retreat, similar to the events at Halys Cut. Arion Elessedil died here when attempting to retrieve the battle standard.
