List of English words of Serbian or Croatian origin.
- Cravat : In the French army under Louis XIII, in the period from 1664 to 1789, there was a cavalry consisting entirely of Croats called Royal Cravate, from the Croatian Hrvat meaning 'Croat'. These soldiers' uniforms included the tie, called la cravate by the French. From French this word entered into many other European languages, including English (cravat), although tie is more commonly used.
- Paprika : Borrowed from Hungarian, from Serbo-Hungarian pàpar (pepper), from Latin piper (pepper).
- Tesla : After Nikola Tesla
- Vampire : originated in Vojvodina (then part of Austria-Hungary)
