The fictional multiverse of Magic: The Gathering has many characters. This alphabetic list includes characters who Appear in flavor-text on the cards, in games, comics or short stories as well as minor characters from the novels. Major characters have their own entry.

Radha

A half-elf, half-Keldon warlord born in Skyshroud. During Time Spiral, Teferi enlists her services and skills in aiding him in repairing the time rifts that threaten to destroy the multiverse. She is the granddaughter of the Keldon warrior Astor, and wields his kukri blade in battle. (Cards: , , )

Radiant

She was a proud archangel lieutenant of Serra who appeared between the Urza's Saga and Urza's Legacy expansions. Fleeing from the Phyrexians, Urza planeswalked to Serra's Realm, where he befriended Serra herself and stayed several years to heal his wounds. After he left, the Phyrexians began to taint the plane. Although Archangel Radiant and her warrior-angels fought back, the Phyrexians' taint was unremovable and Serra fled in grief. The corrupted Radiant blamed the humans for Serra's departure and a civil war broke out. Later, Urza returned to Serra's Realm, hoping to help the plane recover. As the plane began to weaken, Urza realized that the Phyrexians had instigated the war, and instead rescued the humans and most of the angels. The now-insane Radiant battled him and was able to take his eyes out, paralyzing him. She took him to Serra's mirrored throne room and tried to fuse the two stones. Energy sparked from them, and rebounded because of the mirrors. The energy grew exponentially, blinding her. She realized she was the mad one, and seconds later, was incinerated. (Card: )

Raganorn

Raghib

Once a student of El-Hajjaj and betrothed to Nailah. During her quest to achieve power through the fusion of the five Taysirs, Nailah cursed Raghib with incurable leprosy and banished him. He was found by the Dervish and Nomad Taysirs, to whom he explained Nailah's plan.

Ragnar

A legendary barbarian. (Legends; Card: ).

Likely based on the Viking king Ragnar Lodbrok, a gifted military leader who adventured around the world as a pirate and raider. Ragnar's card features a raven in the background, a symbol of the god Odin.

Rakdos

Rakdos, the Defiler, is a Demonlord Guildmaster who leads the Cult of Rakdos. He employs mainly goblins and minotaurs, and seeks to create chaos and anguish in the streets of Ravnica. His interpretation of a "good time" is usually all AbOUT crushing some little human. In Dissension he was awakened by a child, after which he nearly destroyed the entire city, but was stopped by the Simic Experiment Kraj (Card: ) (Ravnica)

Raksha Golden Cub

A legendary leonin kha on Mirrodin. He was friends with Glissa. He was framed of the destruction of Taj-Nar, The Ancient throne of the Leonin Prides. After this, he traveled to the Green Nexus, where he was soon reunited with Glissa. They fought against Memnach together along with Slobad and Geth. (Card:

Ramirez DePietro

A flamboyant pirate. Presumably killed by Halfdane.

Ramos

A dragon engine transported to Mercadia during the Sylex blast of the Brothers' War. Ramos wept, and there were seas. Ramos touched, and there was life. Ramos smiled, and there was day. Ramos fell, and there was night. Ramos bled, and there was fire. See Mercadia for the extensive background of Ramos.

Ramses Overdark

Rashida Scalebane

Zhalfirin dragonhunter. As an idle young daughter of a wealthy family, she grew up quickly when several dragons send by Kaervek and Jolrael incinerated her village, leaving her the sole survivor. She swore to wipe dragons from Jamuura and took the name Scalebane after the family heirloom - a banesword. Rashida became a Zhalfirin hero, leading an army of commoners. She has slayed more than a dozen dragons, turning their hides into armor for her warriors. Driven by dreams and visions sent by Teferi she united with the other leaders of Jamuura to rescue Mangara. For this mission, she was accompanied by an elite guard (Scalebane’s Elite: Kulinda, Jerran and Forena). The amber prison proved to be guarded by the Panther warrior Purraj and a number of foul creatures. Rashida saw the she and her troops were losing, so she donned a dragon mask to imbue her with superhuman strength and speed. After defeating Kaervek’s forces in a dizzying attack she sank to the ground, stunned and horrified at what she had to become in order to succeed.

Rashka the Slayer

A legendary vampire hunter. Legend tells of a lady whose family fell prey to a vampiric horde roaming the wastelands of Singcang. She vowed that her family's soul will be released from the cures of the undead by eliminating all vampires. It was said she sought the blessing of Preets, the balding priest of Lopue's East, for such quest who blessed her with immunity to darkness. (Homelands)

Rasputin Dreamweaver

A powerful wizard who brings prosperity. (Legends)

Ratadrabik

A philosophically-minded Urborg mage in Rift-Era Dominaria. (Cards: , , )

Ratepe

A young Dominarian recruited by Xantcha, Urza's Phyrexian assistant. Xantcha sought out Ratepe in order to impersonate Mishra, Urza's long dead brother, hoping to jar Urza out of his downward spiral of regret and madness. Ratepe proved to be a more-than-capable liar. Thanks to Xancha's coaching and Ratepe's ability to hear Urza's Weakstone singing to him, Ratepe was able to help shock Urza out of his guilt. He continued to help Urza and eventually became Xantcha's lover. Both Ratepe and Xantcha were killed when Urza fought the Phyrexian demon Gix in Koilos.

Ravi

A Planeswalker who ended the war between the Tolgath and the Elder Ones by sounding the Apocalypse Chime and by that almost destroyed Ulgrotha. She locked herself unwillingly away in a (Phyrexian?) Vault. Centuries later, old and raving mad, she was freed by Baron Sengir. He adopted her as a part of his unconventional family, dubbing Ravi "Grandmother Sengir".

Ravidel

A wilder planeswalker, untrained and dangerous.

Originated on Azoria, one of the twelve worlds of the Shard. Dragonfriend of Rhuell the chromium dragon. Mentored and later betrayed by Faralyn. Killed by Tevesh Szat and Leshrac and resurrected by Kristina of the Woods.

In his wrath he became a wargod and battlemage. Swore revenge on Kristina for resurrecting him. Later he was mentored by Taysir and became ruler of Stonehaven in Corondor. In The year 1 according to the Mages in Minorad he disturbed the Summit of Minorad. He threatened to destroy the world with the Golgothian Sylex. As the leader of the Summit Kristina surrendered. After the Mages promised not to interfere with Ravidel they were banned from Minorad, so that the city could go on undisturbed for almost 1300 years.

Exactly 1276 years later Ravidel broke his promise, he returned and destroyed the city and western Corondor in search for the moxes which would help him to recall his master Taysir. He then was almost defeated by the shadowmage Jared Carthalion. He traced Liana who had the moxes but she managed to give them to Jared before she died. Jared then destroyed the Golgothian Sylex. But Ravidel regains the moxes and uses them to recall Taysir (and Daria?) (comics).

Later he battled Sandruu on an unnamed plane, then had a proposed free-for-all with the Minotaur planeswalker and other powerful entities after summoning them with his Mox Beacon. (Magic: Battlemage).

Rayne

Chancellor of the Tolarian Academy. Wife of Barrin, mother of Hanna. Known for putting opposition to many of Urza's projects contrary to the zealous-confidence of Barrin. She was killed by Greel during the war between Jamuraa and Keld. (Urza’s Destiny, Prophecy)

Razia

Boros Archangel. Guildmaster and Parun of the Boros guild, she is a firm believer in law and wishes all of Ravnica to live in harmony, even if blood must be spilled. Wielder of a flaming sword and capable of devastating fire and light magic, Razia was the mightiest of all the Boros angels and the Boros guild parun. Using foreign technology Razia and the other Boros angels built the Parthelion, an immense flying fortress in order to investigate the limits of the Ravnica plane. After successfully entering Agyrem, Razia and all the other Boros angels were assaulted by a ghost army led by Szadek. Feather, who had not gone with them at first, was the only angel to survive, though they held out for a while. (Ravnica) (Card: )

Rebbec

A Thran architect, wife of Glacian. Yawgmoth was enamored of her, but she was constantly torn between him and her husband. She gradually grew concerned at his astonishing rise to power within Halcyon, and was often shocked at the callous brutality used to achieve his status. She had already made several quiet rebellions against him before discovering that he was deliberately keeping Glacian infected with phthisis. She sealed the door between Yawgmoth's Phyrexia and Dominaria just as one of Yawgmoth's mana bombs destroyed the city and everyone in it. Millennia later, Yawgmoth is still enamoured of her, and his first appearance on Dominaria during the Apocalypse causes him to see Rebbec in everything there.

Reod Dai

A mercenary (Card: ) and a former commander of Icatian troops under his birth name Robin Davies. Later, when joining the Order of the Ebon Hand, his name was changed to Reod Dai. A facilitator in the fall of the Sarpadian empires in the arming and training of orcs and goblins, rousing the thrulls to rebel, and unintentionally invoking life in the thallids.

Restela

An Alaborn Marshal. (Portal Second Age)

Reveka

Female Sea-dwarven wizard savant, Head of the wizard’s school of the Homelands. She sought to establish treaties between Aysen and Sengir in a desperate effort to save her school from the flames of war. (Homelands)

Reya Dawnbringer

During the collapse of Serra's Realm, a number of angels followed Urza's request and had an exodus from the plane. Reya was considered one of the angels who escaped (Invasion)

Rhuell, the Chromium Dragon

Not to be confused with the Elder Dragon Chromium, Rhuell was one of the delegates at the Covenant of the Shard. Rhuell was skeletal in appearance, as a Terror spell had been cast on it at some point, shredding its skin. see Chromium

Rith the Awakener

Rith is the Primeval dragon of Yavimayathe art associated to her was agriculture. Ever since she awakened she was held captive by the treefolk there. Instead of blowing fire, vines and saprolings spill from her mouth. (Invasion) (Card: )

Erstwhile leader of the Robaran Mercenaries. (Legends)

Rofellos of Llanowar

An elf, Llanowar emissary in Yavimaya. He was brought to the forest to guide it's defenses in the build-up to the Phyrexian Invasion, and proceeded to adapt to his new home himself. He was trained in the art of maro-sorcery by Multani and his classmates included Gerrard and Mirri. Rofellos formed part of the Weatherlight crew but was killed during the first fight with Gallowbraid and Morinfen, while trying to protect Crovax's family's estate.

Rogad

A Native of Ravnica and initiate to the Selesnya Guild. Converted to the guild after being healed by a dryad. (Cards: )

Rohgahh of Kher Keep

The lord of Kher Keep and commander of the kobolds. (Legends)

Rokuan

Master monk of the sacred bell order and guardian of the Boseiju sanctum, master to Iwamori and Azusa.

Rokun

A black dragon killed by Darigaaz. (Invasion)

Rorix Bladewing

A legendary dragon who wished to rekindle his Shivan heritage by participating in the Grand Coliseum. Ancestor of Tarox Bladewing. Rorix presumably died dueling Phage the Untouchable in the Coliseum and was later reanimated as a zombie to serve the Cabal. (Onslaught) (This is based solely on the cards representing and referencing him in Scourge, Bladewing the Risen and Bladewing's Thrall, respectively.)

Rubinia Soulsinger

A legendary female merfolk, maybe a siren. (Legends)

Rugar

A member of the Ravnica's Boros League who encountered a friendly . Currently recuperating in the Leaguehall infirmary.

Rukarumel

A character of unknown origin that keeps a journal documenting information he learns about slivers. (Time Spiral)

Rusko

A clock maker in Kroog, the Capital of Yotia. He apprenticed Urza as a young man, and helped him gain Kayla bin-Kroog's hand in marriage. It is not known what happened to him when Kroog was destroyed by the Fallji.

Ruya
