List of Academy Award for Best Director winners by age
This is a list of winners of the Academy Award of Merit for Achievement in Directing, presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to a director who has delivered outstanding direction while working on a particular film within the industry. More popularly known as the Academy Award (or the Oscar) for Best Directing, this award was initially presented at the 1st Academy Awards ceremony for 1927 and 1928 and was most recently presented at the 87th Academy Awards ceremony for 2014. Throughout the past 87 years, accounting for shared and repeat winners, AMPAS has presented a total of 90 Best Directing awards to 67 different directors. This list is current as of the 87th Academy Awards ceremony held on February 22, 2015.
