Lindsey Haley
Lindsey Haley (born March 12, 1959) is a Chicana Irish poet and playwright.
Biography
Haley was born March 12, 1959 in El Paso, Texas. In 1968, her family moved to Venice, California. Haley is a self-taught poet, playwright and community activist highlighting The Effects of [...]. Haley has participated in playwriting workshops with Josefina Lopez at CASA0101 and Luis Alfaro at the Latinx Theater Alliance/Latino Theater Initiative Los Angeles. She has read poetry and led group discussions on the cultural icon, the Virgin of Guadalupe at Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Center in Venice, California.
Notable works
In 1999, Haley's poetry was published in Chapter 12: Poems de Una Chicana/Irish in Urban Latino Cultures: La Vida Latina en L.A., edited by Gustavo Leclerc, Raul Villa, M.J. Dear by SAGE Publications.
In 2023, Haley's play titled, Favorite Cousins premiered at CASA 0101 Theatre in Boyle Heights. Haley's first full-length play is AbOUT the effects of [...] on families and community. CASA 0101 is an incubator for new plays founded by Mexican playwright Josefina Lopez, co-screenwriter of the 2002 film version of her play Real Women Have Curves.
Haley worked on Favorite Cousins while holding a full-time job at the City of Santa Monica and co-producing the new works program at CASA 0101. Early versions of this play were commissioned by Te Ada Productions; staged reading at Miles PlayHouse in Santa Monica; and staged at the New Orleans Fringe Festival in New Orleans.
Since 2012, Haley has co-produced the new works writing and directing workshop Chicanas, Cholas y Chisme at CASA0101. This program produced over one hundred new plays by new playwrights in its first ten years.
