Lemur Bay
New article name is Lemur Bay
UWC Entertainment Ltd., a Kelowna-based corporation is home to The Children’s Network, which features Lemur Bay a safe, fast and fun website for children that features Talking Lemurs.
The concept behind Lemur Bay is similar in theory to Club Penguin but unlike their avatars, Lemur Bay developed the text to speech (TTS) chat. The avatars can speak to each other simply by typing like you normally would with one exception. The avatar actually speaks complete with lip sync and can speak in several different languages – 22 plan to be added to the site. The customized proprietary software game engine was developed exclusively by UWC Entertainment Ltd. and took over two years to develop.
While a fun and safe virtual world for children to play in, Lemur Bay also includes an educational environment as well. Professor-Know-It Owl guides children through educational games. Lemur Bay consists of an island with multiple areas, where children can become an avatar and invite their friends to chat or interact. Children can create their own world and invite 3 friends into each world – friends from school, relatives or any other group or club that they may choose to invite.
Similar to other online virtual worlds for children, with a membership, clothing for the avatar, furniture, and even a tree condo can be purchased by earning Lemur Loot.
Another unique feature to Lemur Bay is it’s Band Camp where children learn to play a variety of musical instruments. For no charge students can play along with the Pro-Play Duets series, which are available for 10 different band instruments for beginners and intermediate levels. Children can also build their own band with their personal lemur.
According to UWC Entertainment Ltd., new features will be added to the site on a monthly basis.
Additionally Lemur Bay applications have been developed for and are available on the Apple iPhone.
UWC Entertainment Ltd. also has plans in the works to complete a 26 webisode series focusing on the story of Lemur Bay and cartoon avatars escape from their indigenous home in Madagascar.
