Those that remain:
There are currently (2010) some dozen or so male representatives of the Lebensold Family alive today - in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany (formerly in Russia), Israel, and the United States - and female descendents of this family in many of these countries as well, but every individual is able (working backwards to the beginning of the 20th century) to trace his or her family to Warsaw, Poland.
While there has been - as yet - no definitive link made between these various (presumed) "branches" of the common family tree ...
- (1) The ancestors of most of today's branches lived within a few blocks of each other in late-19th century and early-20th century Warsaw, and
- (2) representatives from the Brazilian, Canadian, French German/Russian and U.S. branches of the family have had their Y-DNA tested (by Family Tree DNA) and prove to be a precise match on 37 markers, meaning that those branches have a better than 50% chance of sharing an ancestor in common in the past 4-5 generations.
An early Lebensold?
There is a Lebenssold family (note the double "s") listed in the online database of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ("LDS"): Georg Lebenssold (born about 1665, died January 18, 1713, both in Kleinsussen, Donau, Wuerttemberg, Germany) at http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/AF/individual_record.asp?recid=17877256&lds=0®ion=-. But no link to any of the "Polish" Lebensolds has yet been established - and (considering that most Jewish families in Eastern Europe only began using surnames in the early 19th Century1) there may not be one.
Major branches of the Lebensold family:
