Lassens health food

Lassens health food, also known as "Lassens food," or "Lassens natural food and vitamins" is a health food store chain and supplier based in Ventura, California. As of 2008, Lassens has nine store locations reaching as far south as Thousand Oaks and as far north as Bakersfield and Santa Maria.

The stores started in the 1970's by Danish immigrants, Hilmar and Oda Lassen in Camarillo. By the early 1980's the store had moved to its current location and expanded. Another store had opened in Oxnard and the two stores were being run by brothers John and Peter. Shortly after, sister, Doris opened the Thousand Oaks location. By the late 1990's, the Simi Valley, Goleta/Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Santa Clarita stores had been opened. Later, the Bakersfield and Santa Maria stores opened doors under the Lassen's name.

Each store is privately owned, run, and managed by their respective owners. They focus on all natural products, organic produce, hormone-free meats and dairy, and herbs and vitamin supplements. They carry a range of natural cosmetics and various other natural products.

Recently, the stores, most particularly the Ventura Store, have come under fire by opponents of California Proposition 8, citing the owner's donation towards the proposition as a reason to call for a boycott of the store. Interestingly enough, calls for boycotts have sparked promises and commitments from potential shoppers to always shop at the stores.
