Larry Aceves
Larry Aceves (born circa 1944) is the former Superintendent of the Franklin-McKinley School District and of the Alum Rock Union School District, and was the losing candidate for the post of California Superintendent of Public Instruction in the general election of 2010.
Aceves was the top vote-getter in The Primary election in June 2010, with 19.2% of the vote, and FACES Tom Torlakson (who received 18.6%) in the General Election on 2 November 2010.
In the general election in November 2010, Aceves received 3,469,665 votes, 45.1% of the total, and was defeated by Tom Torlakson, who received 4,214,449 votes, 54.7% of the total.
Aceves started his career as a bilingual teacher at Bayside School in the San Diego area in 1974. He became the principal of the nearby Imperial Beach Elementary School in 1979. From 1989 to 1991, he was assistant superintendent of the Pajaro Valley Unified School District in Watsonville, California, and in 1991, became the superintendent of the Alum Rock Union School District in San Jose, California.
