Lactopafi
Lactobacillus Pafi Techno Resources Corporation (LBPTRC), LactoPafi for brevity, is a Filipino-owned corporation. Incorporated on February 2002, It is primarily engaged in the manufacture of Philippine Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) registered Lactobacillus health drinks. The products are currently marketed with brand names ”LACTOPAFI” and “LACTOVITALE”. It is also engaged in the manufacture of probiotic pharmaceutical supplements and various personal care products.
History
LactoPafi started in 1999 when Engr. Greg Sanchez Jr., its Founding Chairman, organized Pagpalambo Foundation, Incorporated (or PAFI). The foundation is geared towards the development of the livelihood and entrepreneurial skills of its members. The foundation initially conducted livelihood training seminars and workshops, such as livestock & poultry-raising.
Engr. Sanchez came across an article on “probiotics”. The description of the “good" bacteria and some of its potential benefits drew his deep interest. He persisted in researching for methods of culturing these bacteria. At the same time, he conducted experiments using varied concoctions and culturing schemes. He produced a liquid product in the year 2000.
The product was named Lactobacillus for Agri-livestock. This product was intended as feed supplement for hogs and chickens, to help PAFI members get relief from the expensive feed mix. Member-users gave favorable feedback on the product’s health effects on their farm animals.
Some farm hands tried consuming this new product, encouraged by its good effects on farm animals. Many of the trial users made testimonials on the product’s beneficial effects on them.
LactoPafi made major changes of its manufacturing process, ingredients and product formulation. A new product was developed, fit for human consumption.
In 2001, BFAD approved and issued permits for the manufacture and sale of this new product, LACTOPAFI Health Drink. LactoPafi applied for a patent of its Lactobacillus manufacturing process with the Philippine Patents Office in 2002.
Another probiotic product, LACTOVITALE, was developed in 2003 to cater to the export market. It was then exported to Norway in 2004
Probiotic Health Drinks
LACTOPAFI and LACTOVITALE are liquid suspensions of probiotic bacteria cultured in soybeans, molasses and milk. Laboratory tests of product samples showed the presence of substantial Lactobacillus colonies such as L. casei, L. brevis, L. rhamnosus, L.paracasei, L. zeae, and L. plantarum.
Laboratory tests also confirmed the presence of 33 amino acids, vitamins and minerals, and natural antibiotics. The product also was found to restrain growth of 18 pathogens in in vitro inhibitory activity tests.
LACTOPAFI Health Drink is made from all-natural ingredients without any artificial and synthetic additives.
