LaasqorayNET is a web-based media outlet. It is centered in the cities of Badhan, Bosaso, Dubai and London. The website features articles written mainly in Somali, but also hosts a few news items in English. LaasqorayNET is the only Puntland-based website to feature frequently updated articles in Arabic. In addition, the website features some audio, though the latter is not regularly updated.

Media and Puntland

In late March 2009, LaasqorayNET’s chief in Bosaso was served a two year jail sentence for allegedly spreading fabricated stories and lies vis-a-vis the regional Puntland government, allegations which security officials and LaasqorayNET have rejected. The journalist's arrest has led many national and international media houses to call for the Puntland authorities to stop persecuting the journalist and to respect freedom of the press.
