Kyowhan kim
Rev. Kyo Whan Kim, Pastor of The New Church, was born in Seoul, Korea on July 17th 1957 (also known as Ule, ChunChu and ChooAng, June 20th, 1957). With degrees in the Baptist and Presbyterian denominations, he has concluded that the essence of the Bible could not be obtained in pre-existing theologies. Subsequent to his conclusion, he went into a period of hermitage for AbOUT seven years, putting himself through intensive praying, in efforts to gain spiritual inspiration through physical experiences. In doing this, he developed a method of interpreting the Bible with the belief that each and every point and line written in the Scripture was done through a holy possession of its authors.
In spring of '81, he experienced a “spiritual exiting” during which he visited the exterior spiritual realms unknown to men. After this experience, he challenged and tested his position in the spiritual hierarchy vis-à-vis his leadership in a nationwide debate of head clergymen of all religions in a zenic environment. From this point on, he was known as a magistrate of Biblical interpretation on a universal scale, destroying each and every sect of any organized religion along his way via debates with the leading clergies and masters of any given religion.
There are many remarkable stories of his work, but here are two of the legends that are favorites among his followers go as follows: During his seminar regarding the universe in ’88, one minister asked if there were extraterrestrial beings in the universe, Rev. Kim answered that there were millions of civilizations out there, and that the ones anointed by God in this world were chosen to be future monarchs on these worlds. Mockingly, a Buddhist monk stated that he saw the universe in his cup of tea. Rev. Kim then took the cup of tea immediately and splashed it on the monks face saying, “How does it feel to have the universe dripping on your face? In ’90, while taking a foreign friend through a tour, a famous monk exclaimed, “Do not point your finger blasphemously at the idols!” Chuckling, Rev. Kim responded, “When I point at the moon, look at the moon. Why stare at my finger?” Through such events, it can only be concluded that he has the gift to elevate the mind of man to its NATURAL state as a true master of all religions. Furthermore, he has been seen to perform exorcisms and healings - in the case of healings, patients have all testified to feel warmth in the ill regions of their bodies, the level of heat depending on the patients' perception of need.
While most theologians interpret the grand scheme of God from the Creation of Genesis to the Judgment of Revelation on a linear plane, Rev. Kim claims it to be not even circular or aspheric, but an ascending spiral, shocking the world of theology. Though he was faced with many obstacles since the publication of his theory, he has gone on persistently to spread the truth as he sees it.
From ‘88 to ‘93, Rev. Kim taught at the PyungTek Research Centre for Ministers, lecturing on God, Man (Three Steps to the Creation of Man), Universe, Satan, Revelations (New Interpretation), Gospels (New Interpretations), Creation (New Interpretations). On his mission to South America in ’90, he lectured on the Quito Christian Radio of Ecuador. Upon his return to Korean in summer of ‘92, he lectured on Genesis at Dong-Kwang-Won (society of highly intellectual people in the Far East, founded by Lee Hyun Pil, considered a saint of the east). Then in ‘94, he lectured at the Baptist Convention in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was introduced to Rev. Art of the Southern Baptist Church and began his ministry in the States at the Mayfair Baptist Church. He then went on to extend his church, furthering his reach to the states of Georgia, North Carolina, New York, Indiana, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The essence of his teachings is always focused on Jesus Christ, and that “not only is He our Savior from sin, poverty and sickness, but that He is also our Creator and is God.” Having left the States in '05, he is currently touring through countries controlled by Communism. As he is unable to trace, he leaves us wondering, where is he now?
